A West Reading resident saw a man break into the resident's vehicle about 10:37 p.m. Feb. 28 in the 400 block of Franklin Street in the borough. Police tracked down the suspect and arrested him about an hour later. They charged the man, a 20-year-old Reading resident, with theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, prowling at night and underage drinking.
He was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail and faces a preliminary hearing later this month.

Suspect arrested in West Reading vehicle break-ins
Someone spotted a man breaking into a vehicle about 12:20 p.m. Jan. 26 in the first block of South Second Avenue in West Reading. Borough police caught the suspect, who officers said also stole items the same day from a vehicle parked in the first block of South Third Avenue. The suspect, a 31-year-old Reading man, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, theft from a motor vehicle, damaging property, possessing an instrument of crime, attempted theft from a vehicle and disorderly conduct. He was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Officer on bicycle patrol catches burglary suspect
A woman who lives in the 400 block of Penn Avenue in West Reading heard a loud bang at the rear of a nearby salon. She told a borough police officer who was on bicycle patrol. He spotted a hole in the glass of a door to the business and two other officers spotted a man whom the woman described as the suspect. Police arrested the suspect, a 47-year-old Reading resident, and charged him with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. He was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Thief steals bicycle from Wyomissing garage
A man called Wyomissing police at 10:03 p.m. Sept. 6 to report that someone had gone into the garage of his house in the 200 block of Reading Boulevard and ridden off with a bike. A West Reading police officer spotted the suspect at about 10:10 p.m. in the 600 block of Penn Avenue in the borough. The suspect, a 43-year-old man with no known address, was arrested and charged with burglary, trespassing, criminal mischief, prowling at night, theft and receiving stolen property. He was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Man arrested on disorderly conduct charge in West Reading
West Reading police arrested a man at 9:34 p.m. July 19 in the 500 block of Penn Avenue in West Reading on suspicion of persistent disorderly conduct. The suspect, a 54-year-old borough man, was arraigned early in the morning July 20 and jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Police arrest man following fight at restaurant
West Reading police heard a report of a fight about 3:30 a.m. July 19 at the West Reading Diner in the 400 block of Penn Avenue in the borough. The fight had dispersed before officers arrived, but a witness said a man who was still there had been involved in the fight. Police talked to the man and found he had outstanding warrants, on which they then arrested him.

Police arrest driver accused of causing four-car accident in Wyomissing
A vehicle heading south shortly before 9 p.m. June 18 on State Hill Road in Wyomissing plowed into a row of cars stopped for a red light at the intersection of Penn Avenue. The vehicle slammed into a second vehicle, which then sideswiped a third one and struck the back of a fourth var. Two people were hurt in the crash that also required three vehicles to be towed.
Wyomissing police arrested the driver of the first car on suspicion of drunken driving and took the driver to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a blood-alcohol test.

Wyomissing police believe driver to be more than just drunk
Borough police stopped a car for erratic driving at 2:19 a.m. June 14 at the intersection of Van Reed Road and North Wyomissing Boulevard in Wyomissing. The driver appeared to be “under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance,” according to police, and was arrested.
