Argument between mother, son brings police response

A Wyomissing woman called police about 3:34 a.m. April 10 after an argument with her 20-year-old son in their home in the 1600 block of Reading Boulevard. The dispute ended when the son swiped a bottle of liquor and ran away. He returned to the home as police were checking the area.

The resolution, as described by Wyomissing police:
Officers spoke with the male and he decided it was in his best interest to brush his teeth, put in his retainer and go to bed and start a new day when he gets up for college in the morning. Resolved.

Teen's fight with his mom gets attention of police

Someone called police about a loud argument about 5:36 p.m. Feb. 27 between a mother and her teenage son in the 1600 block of Cleveland Avenue. The two argued about discipline and house rules, as well as the fact that the son's homework was late or incomplete, and his mother punished him for it. After talking with officers, the two agreed to settle their differences, for the moment.

Man assaults woman, gets stopped for drunken driving

A woman called police about 11:56 p.m. Feb. 17 after she was assaulted in a domestic dispute in the 400 block of Oak Terrace in West Reading. The man had fled the home, but he didn't elude police for long. Less than 10 minutes later, he drove to the house, spotted officers and drove off. Police followed the vehicle as the driver broke several traffic laws.

When they stopped him in the 300 block of South Fifth Avenue, he smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests. Police arrested the suspect and plan to charge him with assault. Drunken-driving charges are pending blood test results, police said.

Police charge two people in domestic assault in West Reading

Someone called 911 about 3:23 a.m. Feb. 16 for a fight between a man and woman at a home in the 500 block of Reading Avenue in West Reading. Police arrived and arrested the man, a 54-year-old borough resident, charging him with simple assault and harassment. He was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Five days later, on Feb. 21, police filed the same charges of simple assault and harassment against the woman.

Woman injured, man charged in domestic dispute in West Reading

A man attacked a woman about 8:32 p.m. Feb. 13 at an apartment in the 300 block of Penn Avenue in West Reading. She suffered injuries but refused medical treatment. Borough police arrested the man and charged him with two counts of simple assault and harassment, four counts of disorderly conduct and one count each of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

The suspect, a 35-year-old Reading man, was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Wyomissing man charged in domestic assault

A couple began fighting about 10:52 a.m. Jan. 30 because the boyfriend, who had been drinking, woke up his girlfriend in their apartment in the 800 block of Park Road North in Wyomissing. She slapped him, and police cited her for harassment.

A few hours later, about 1:59 p.m., officers returned for another, more serious domestic call. The man had punched his girlfriend in the mouth, knocking out a crown, and threatened her with a knife. He hid in a storage locker near the building's laundry room, where police found him and arrested him.

The suspect, a 52-year-old Wyomissing man, was charged with harassment and two counts of simple assault, He was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Woman tries to visit dog, gets turned away by police

West Reading police were called to a home about 4:18 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 700 block of Wayne Avenue in the borough after a woman came to the home of her ex-husband to visit the dog. She admitted to police she didn't live there anymore. Officers told her to leave and gave her a warning for disorderly conduct.

Husband attacks wife, takes her mother's car

A woman called Wyomissing police after she had to jump out of a vehicle about 4:10 a.m. Jan. 14 at Penn and Clayton avenues in Wyomissing. She left the vehicle because her husband, who was driving, threatened and assaulted her. He drove away and refused to return the vehicle, which was owned by the woman's mother.

Police arrested the suspect, a 44-year-old West Lawn man, and charged him with simple assault, making terroristic threats, harassment and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Wyomissing man jailed on assault charges

A Wyomissing resident called borough police about 12:26 p.m. on Dec. 12 after hearing a domestic dispute in the first block of Tewksbury Drive. A man struck his girlfriend, then threatened her with a gun. Police arrested the suspect, a 52-year-old Wyomissing man, and charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm, making terroristic threats, harassment and two counts of simple assault.

He was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9 before District Judge Timothy Dougherty.

Fight over drugs leads to domestic assault

A couple's argument over missing prescription pills turned into an assault when the man hit the woman. Police were called about 6:50 a.m. Dec. 1 to the home in the 600 block of Reading Avenue in West Reading, where they arrested the man. The suspect, a 52-year-old borough resident, was charged with simple assault and harassment, and jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Wyomissing police arrest man in domestic dispute

Wyomissing police were called to a home about 1:45 p.m. Nov. 2 in the first block of Woodland Road in the borough for a domestic dispute. Officers arrested the man involved in the fight and charged him with simple assault, harassment and reckless endangerment. The suspect, a 40-year-old Wyomissing resident, was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Husband charged with domestic assault in West Reading

An argument between a married couple turned violent in the evening of Oct. 16 at a home in the 200 block of Olive Street in West Reading. Police arrested the husband and charged him with two counts of simple assault and one count each of harassment and making terroristic threats. He was released on five percent of $5,000 bail.

Pit bulls get between mother, son in Wyomissing

A Wyomissing woman spoke to police about 4:15 p.m. Oct. 17 about a problem with her son. She wants her son to get rid of two pit bulls he bought and keeps at their home in the 800 block of Spring Street in the borough. The son refused to get rid of the dogs, and officers told the woman they can't make him get rid of them. She told police she might kick her son out of the house.

West Reading man charged in domestic assault

Police were called to a domestic fight about 11:43 p.m. Aug. 6 in the 600 block of Reading Avenue in West Reading, where the victim told officers the fight had turned physical. Police charged a 35-year-old borough man in the dispute with simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment. He was released pending a preliminary hearing.

Man charged in domestic assault in West Reading

Police were called about 8:09 p.m. July 15 after a man was reportedly beating up a woman in the 400 block of Oak Terrace in West Reading. Officers arrested the suspect, a 21-year-old borough man, charging him with two counts each of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Wernersville man charged in West Reading assault

West Reading police received a call about an assault taking place about 1:22 a.m. July 15 in an unspecified block of South Sixth Avenue. They arrested a suspect, a Wernersville man (no age given) who was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts each of simple assault and harassment and one count of reckless endangerment. He was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Son and his wanted girlfriend unwanted in woman's house

A Wyomissing woman called police after her son came to her home about 10 a.m. June 17 in the 800 block of Spring Street in Wyomissing. He was there to get some of his stuff, and while the mom had no problem with his appearance, she didn’t like the fact that he brought his girlfriend with him. She described the girlfriend as "trouble" -- in this case, defined as having eight active warrants and being wanted on a theft charge. The man and his belle left after a brief argument, taking off in a taxi before police arrived.

West Reading men charged in separate domestic assaults

A woman told police about a domestic fight that took place about 4 a.m. June 12 in the 500 block of Reading Avenue in West Reading. Officers arrested a man on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. The suspect, a 34-year-old West Reading resident, was released on $10,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing.

Just over 90 minutes later, borough police responded to another domestic disturbance, this time at 5:32 a.m. in the 200 block of Kline Street in West Reading. The suspect, a 49-year-old borough man, was accused of assaulting a woman at the home. He was charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and released on $5,000 bail.

Man charged in West Reading assault

A late-night fight resulted in injuries to two people and the arrest of one man on May 28 in West Reading. About 2:47 a.m. police received a call about a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Spruce Street in the borough. Two people suffered injuries in the fight. Police arrested a 36-year-old West Reading man and charged him with harassment, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and simple assault. He was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Massachusetts man charged in Wyomissing assault

Someone called Wyomissing police about 12:22 April 16 to report a break-in in the 300 block of Greenwich Street in the borough. When officers arrived they found it was actually a domestic dispute. They arrested the man involved. The suspect, a 24-year-old Hull, Mass., resident, was charged with disorderly conduct, simple assault, harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.
