Store security stopped a man about 2:38 p.m. March 30 for stealing $145.97 worth of merchandise from a store in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. When borough police arrived, they found he had marijuana and Xanax on him. He also had a scofflaw warrant.
He was arrested on the warrant and police plan to file charges for the shoplifting and drug possession.

High-speed driver suspected of also driving high in Wyomissing
A Wyomissing police officer stopped a vehicle about 12:38 p.m. March 25 that had been going 89 mph on the Warren Street Bypass, where the speed limit is 55 mph. The driver appeared to be drunk, so the officer gave him a sobriety test. During the stop police also found some marijuana and a pipe in the vehicle. The driver was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for a blood test. Police expect to file charges against the driver.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges for four people in vehicle
A Wyomissing police officer stopped a vehicle with a broken brake light about 4 p.m. March 11 at Penn and Clayton avenues. When the officer approached the car, the smell of marijuana was apparent. A police dog was brought in to help search the vehicle a search that yielded more marijuana, paraphernalia, scales and open containers of alcohol. The four people in the vehicle now face drug charges.

Probation officer finds marijuana growing in West Reading apartment
A probation officer called West Reading police about 10:40 a.m. Jan. 31 after finding marijuana plants in an apartment in the 500 block of Reading Avenue. Police arrested the tenant on charges of possession of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of a firearm.
The suspect, a 37-year-old borough man, was on probation in a drunken-driving conviction from 2010, according to court records. That probation was revoked in December, records say.
The suspect was jailed on the new charges in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Three face drug charges after traffic stop in West Reading
A group of men chose the middle of the day, and the middle of the street, to make a drug deal. West Reading police officers were watching about 3:34 p.m. Jan. 6 as the four men, in a vehicle stopped at Franklin Street and South Fifth Avenue in the borough, handed items off to one another. One of the men got out of the car, and the driver drove away, speeding and turning without signaling. Police stopped the car and smelled marijuana immediately. They found pot in the car and on one of the suspects.
All three men were charged. The suspected driver, a 20-year-old Reading man, was charged with pot possession, conspiracy to possess pot, failure to use a turn signal and speeding. A second suspect, a 19-year-old Reading man, was also charged with marijuana possession and conspiracy. The third suspect, a 21-year-old Wyomissing man, was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance and conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance. The three were jailed in lieu of $5,000 each.

Woman faces gun, drug charges after traffic stop in Wyomissing
Wyomissing police stopped a vehicle about 11:19 p.m. Dec. 13 at Route 422 west and Penn Avenue because its rear lights didn't work. Officers found a gun, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. They arrested one of the passengers, a 21-year-old woman, and released the driver and another passenger. The suspect whom police arrested was charged with carrying a gun without a license, conspiracy to carry a gun without a license and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. She was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.
On Dec. 18, police filed charges against the driver. The suspect, a 23-year-old Shartlesville, Pa., man, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a gun without a license, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to carry a gun without a license, and driving without rear lights.

Man tries to steal from outlet, gets caught with pot
Security guards at VF Outlets stopped a man who tried to steal $8 worth of merchandise about 4:35 p.m. Oct. 24 from the store in the 800 block of Hill Avenue in Wyomissing. When they searched him, they found marijuana on the suspect. Police charged the 20-year-old Reading man with retail theft and pot possession. He was released pending a hearing.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrests in West Reading
Three people were arrested about 12:10 a.m. Oct. 30 in the 400 block of Penn Avenue in West Reading after a traffic stop. Police pulled the vehicle over because of an expired registration sticker. The officer noticed the driver's eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and pot was visible inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and the two passengers were arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession.

Police find man passed out on sidewalk in Wyomissing
Wyomissing police found a man sleeping on the sidewalk about 2:47 a.m. Aug. 31 at the intersection of State Hill Road and Greenwood Mall in Wyomissing. When they woke him up he appeared drunk and became combative. Officers arrested the man, who also had a small amount of pot on him. The suspect, a 27-year-old Sinking Spring resident, was charged with marijuana possession, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Pair charged with drug possession
Two women face drug charges after a Wyomissing police officer spotted them drinking in a car parked about 9:18 p.m. April 23 in the 1100 block of Woodland Road. The officer saw marijuana in the vehicle, as well. The suspects, both 18 and from Douglassville, were not charged with underage drinking. They were, however, charged with possession of a small amount of pot.

Loud neighbors attract police attention
A West Reading man called police about 4:25 a.m. April 17 to say his neighbors were too loud and he couldn't sleep. An officer went to the home in the 200 block of Silk Way. He rang the doorbell but got no reply. He heard voices and smelled marijuana when he went to the back. He also saw two men, both under 21, drinking and smoking pot. Eventually the home's tenant came outside. Police determined he, too, had been drinking and was under 21. All three were cited for disorderly conduct.
No word on whether the neighbor was finally able to get some sleep.

Driver faces charges following stop in Wyomissing
A Wyomissing police officer stopped a vehicle after watching it drive erratically about 1:54 a.m. April 3. The final straw came when the vehicle turned left from Trent Avenue onto Wayne Avenue. The driver admitted to police to smoking marijuana and was taken to the DUI center for blood test.

Drugs found in vehicle parked in front of liquor store
A Wyomissing police officer spotted a car parked in a fire lane about 9:37 p.m. April 2 in front of a liquor store in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing. The officer spotted a blunt wrapper; after what he described as a “confusing story” by the vehicle’s passenger he searched the vehicle. Police found marijuana and heaps of cash inside.

Mall walker finds marijuana during promenade in Berkshire Mall
A mall walker called police about 12:28 p.m. March 24 after finding a small bag of what appeared to be marijuana near a bench in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. Police confiscated the bag and destroyed it, along with the pot inside.

Reading man faces drug charges after traffic stop in Wyomissing
A Reading man was charged March 22 with drug possession and driving under the influence stemming from a traffic stop at 11:47 p.m. March 6 at Penn and George avenues in Wyomissing. Police stopped the vehicle for a brake light that was out. When they approached it, officers could smell marijuana. The driver, who also had a suspended license and an open warrant, had pot on him, police said. One of the other passengers also had a warrant and was taken to district court in Reading. The alleged driver, a 22-year-old Reading resident, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, drunken driving and driving with a suspended license.

Police search for car burglary suspect, find man with drugs instead
A West Reading police officer patrolling the area of Tulpehocken Avenue and Walnut Street in the borough about 7:15 p.m. March 15 stopped a man on a bicycle in the 400 block of Tulpehocken Avenue. The man raised the officer's suspicions because of the recent string of vehicle break-ins in the borough this month. He spoke with the cyclist, who eventually admitted having pot and drug paraphernalia in his pockets. The suspect, a 28-year-old West Lawn resident, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police find pot in car following accident in Wyomissing
Two vehicles collided about 7:24 p.m. Jan. 21 on Crossing Drive in Wyomissing when one of them crossed lanes into oncoming traffic, striking the second car. No one was injured; apparently the two occupants of the first vehicle were healthy enough to run from the crash, in opposite directions. When Wyomissing police arrived they spotted some small bags of marijuana in the now-vacant vehicle.

Wyomissing teen faces drug charges
An 18-year-old Wyomissing resident was charged Nov. 19 with one count each of marijuana possession and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a traffic stop at 1:35 a.m. Nov. 1 at the intersection of Penn and Trent avenues. Police stopped the car for driving without headlights and the officer reported an “overwhelming smell of marijuana” in the car.

Even more noticeable was the “overpowering” smell of pot in the car after the traffic stop. The officer also found a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
