Driver gives up vehicle in Wyomissing traffic circle

Someone called Wyomissing police about 11:17 p.m. Feb. 11 after seeing a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road around the traffic circle at Reading and Wyomissing boulevards in the borough. By the time police arrived the driver had left, but the vehicle hadn't; it was partly blocking traffic in the circle, with a flat tire and damage to a rear wheel. Police recovered a handgun on the floor in the back of the car.

Happy Halloween! Now run for your life

Some trick-or-treaters in Wyomissing received a scare about 7:02 p.m. Oct. 31 when a maroon sport utility vehicle sped through the 1200 block of Reading Boulevard as children were out in costume. Someone yelled at the driver to slow down. The driver did, in fact, stopping the SUV and yelling obscenities at the civilian would-be traffic enforcer before speeding off. Police searched in vain for the speeding SUV.

Reckless driver arrested for drunken driving

A Wyomissing police officer received a call about 7:06 p.m. April 23 about a reckless driver that witnesses said was “all over the road.” A few minutes later the officer spotted the vehicle on the Warren Street Bypass driving, as described, all over the road. The driver was arrested for suspected drunken driving and his wife came to pick up the car’s passenger, a 5-year-old.

Driver fiddles with GPS, attracts police attention

West Reading police received a call about a reckless driver about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 7 traveling east on Route 422 past the Penn Avenue exit. The man had apparently been swerving all over the road and passed a patrol car before being stopped. When the officer asked the man why he was driving that way, the man said he was trying to program his GPS device. The officer told him not to do so while driving the car at the same time.

Speeding car eludes police

A driver of a white Volkswagen Golf was spotted driving well over the speed limit and weaving through traffic shortly before 9 p.m. June 13 on the 1200 block of Penn Avenue in Wyomissing. A witness also said the car had driven on a sidewalk in West Reading and was speeding west. Police were unable to find the car after it drove into West Lawn.
