Store security stopped a man about 2:38 p.m. March 30 for stealing $145.97 worth of merchandise from a store in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. When borough police arrived, they found he had marijuana and Xanax on him. He also had a scofflaw warrant.
He was arrested on the warrant and police plan to file charges for the shoplifting and drug possession.

Police charge two women with shoplifting from store in Berkshire Mall
Two women ignored a guard who told them to return to a security office about 3:16 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. They finally listened when borough police officers showed up. The pair were accused of stealing more than $500 worth of merchandise from the mall.
On March 1, police charged the two suspects -- a 30-year-old Pottstown woman and a 25-year-old Mohnton woman -- with retail theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit retail theft. A hearing for the Pottstown woman is scheduled for later this month.

Thief with a record gets arrested for stealing, again
A man on parole who has previous convictions for retail theft was caught once more. About 12:36 p.m. Feb. 20, he was stopped by security at a store in the 1100 block of Berkshire Boulevard in Wyomissing. Police arrested him for stealing $25.83 worth of merchandise. The suspect, a 45-year-old Wernersville man, was charged with a single count of retail theft and jailed in lieu of $1,500 bail.

Man charged in January theft from VF Outlet in Wyomissing
At about 2:55 p.m. Jan. 20, security guards at VF Outlet tried to stop three shoplifting suspects who ran away from the store in the 800 block of Hill Avenue in Wyomissing. Police went after the suspects, but only caught one, at Sixth and Penn avenues in West Reading. The trio had stolen $335.87 worth of merchandise.
On Feb. 9, police charged the suspect they had caught, an 18-year-old Reading man, with retail theft and receiving stolen property. He faces a preliminary arraignment in March.

Halfway-house resident charged with shoplifting in Wyomissing
Security guards saw a man putting merchandise in his pockets about 1:40 p.m. Feb. 7 at a store in the 1100 block of Berkshire Boulevard in Wyomissing. The value of the stolen goods was $15.03 but he also had items from a nearby store that he hadn't paid for, either. Police identified the suspect, a 21-year-old Wernersville man, as a resident of a halfway house. He had pleaded guilty in 2010 to burglary, theft and other charges.

Shoplifting suspects try, and fail, to flee Wyomissing police
Security guards at VF Outlet tried to stop two thieves about 2 p.m. Jan. 29 from the shopping complex in the 800 block of Hill Avenue in Wyomissing. The suspects stole $319.89 worth of merchandise. The shoplifters drove away in a truck, but they didn't get far. Borough police stopped them a few blocks away. The passenger jumped out of the truck at an intersection nearby. The driver tried to hide with the truck behind a nearby hotel. Police found them both and arrested the suspects.

Denver couple charged in late December theft at Berkshire Mall
Two people stole several items about 1:03 p.m. Dec. 29 from stores in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing, and fled in a maroon vehicle. Borough police tracked them down and on Jan. 23, they charged the suspects, a 38-year-old man and a woman, both from Denver, Pa., with retail theft, receiving stolen property and two counts each of conspiracy. Both face an arraignment at the end of February.

Shoplifters keep police busy at Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing
Wyomissing police responded to three calls of shoplifting within about two hours in the evening of Jan. 16 at the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in the borough.
- About 7:38 p.m., a boy stole $8 worth of earrings at a store in the mall, hiding the jewelry in his boots. He became hostile to police, who detained him until his mother could come pick the boy up. Police recovered the earrings. Store employees decided not to press charges, opting instead to handle it privately.
- A short time, later, about 8 p.m., mall security had two people in custody for shoplifting from several stores. One was a girl, who also had drug paraphernalia on her, and the other a woman. Police cited the woman for retail theft. The girl faces charges of retail theft and possessing drug paraphernalia.
- About 9:03 p.m. a fourth suspect was caught at a store in the mall, stealing $40 in merchandise. Employees said the store will handle it privately.

West Reading man charged with shoplifting from store in Berkshire Mall
A man took two items from their display shelves at a store about 3:13 p.m. Jan. 3 in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing, and took them to the cashier – to return. The cashier gave the man a gift card for the $59.07 value of the items. Police officers who watched the transaction then took the man into custody. The suspect, a 46-year-old West Reading man, also had an outstanding warrant. Police turned the man over to Berks County sheriff's deputies. He was charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property.

Woman in wheelchair charged with shoplifting at Berkshire Mall
A store employee spotted a woman in a wheelchair hiding jewelry on herself about 12:35 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. The employee called mall security guards, who found the woman had taken about $200 in jewelry from the store, plus clothing from other shops in the mall. Wyomissing police charged the suspect, a 48-year-old Reading-area woman, with retail theft and receiving stolen property.

Oley pair charged in shoplifting incident at Berkshire Mall
On Oct. 29, a man and a woman were stopped by security guards for shoplifting about 4:10 p.m. at the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. The borough officer who responded to the call knew both suspects from previous incidents. At the time, they were released with charges to follow later. On Nov. 1, police made good on their promise. The suspects, a 25-year-old Oley man and a 25-year-old Oley woman, were each charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy. They remain free pending a December court appearance.

Reading man arrested on shoplifting charges in Wyomissing
A man tried to take $352.88 worth of merchandise from a store about 1:50 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. Store security stopped him, then called borough police. The man, a 54-year-old Reading resident, is also a suspect in a theft of $459.88 in goods stolen Oct. 8, though police didn't say where that theft took place. The suspect has multiple theft convictions and was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property. He was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Man tries to steal from outlet, gets caught with pot
Security guards at VF Outlets stopped a man who tried to steal $8 worth of merchandise about 4:35 p.m. Oct. 24 from the store in the 800 block of Hill Avenue in Wyomissing. When they searched him, they found marijuana on the suspect. Police charged the 20-year-old Reading man with retail theft and pot possession. He was released pending a hearing.

Shoplifting suspect arrested in Wyomissing store
A woman with a history of retail theft convictions was arrested once again. Store security stopped her about 1:09 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Home Depot in the 1700 block of Crossing Drive in Wyomissing. Borough police discovered the suspect had five previous convictions and she was a suspect in an earlier incident in the borough. The suspect, a 30-year-old Reading woman, was charged (again) with retail theft, receiving stolen property, theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking. She was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail. Police did not say what she tried to take from the home improvement store.

Women steal clothes from Wyomissing store
Two women took $200 worth of clothes from a store about 5:35 p.m. July 18 in the 1000 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing. Witnesses saw them leave in a light-colored Toyota but didn't know which in direction the vehicle went. Police were unable to find the suspects.

Theft victim declines to press charges against suspect
Wyomissing police stopped a shoplifting suspect about 4:01 p.m. June 24 who was wanted for stealing from a store in the 700 block of Reading Avenue in West Reading. The victim told police she only wanted the merchandise back, so the suspect was released.

Lebanon, Pa., man charged with stealing sockets
man stole more than $200 worth of sockets about 3:02 p.m. June 7 from a store in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. Why sockets? Who knows? Police stopped the man and found he had six previous arrests. The suspect, a 29-year-old Lebanon, Pa., man, was charged with retail theft and jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Young thieves run, but can't hide
Two boys tried taking items from a store about 7:08 p.m. June 8 in the 1000 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing, but they couldn't run from police. An officer caught one of the suspects almost right away. The other suspect tried to hide under a car. He dislocated his shoulder in the process. He was taken to the hospital, and later to the Juvenile Detention Center. Police filed juvenile referrals on both boys.

Man faces felony theft charges after shoplifting arrest
Security guards stopped a theft suspect who had stolen $128 worth of merchandise about 3:02 p.m. April 21 in Sears at the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road. When police checked the man's identification, they found 13 previous convictions for retail theft. He was arrested and charged with felony retail theft.

Reading man charged with shoplifting from Sears in Wyomissing
Security guards stopped a man about 2:58 p.m April 3 who had taken $262 worth of merchandise from the Sears in the Berkshire Mall, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing. Borough police found the man had no prior convictions and no warrants, so they released him. On April 15, they charged the suspect, a 21-year-old Reading man, with retail theft and receiving stolen property.
