Lost woman leads police to party with drugs, underage drinkers in Wyomissing

A woman made too much racket trying to get back to the room where the party was while in a hotel about 12:35 a.m. March 18 in the 400 block of Park Road North. Police officers arrived and found the party with little difficulty – partly with the help of a strong smell of marijuana in a hallway. They found three large bags of pot in the room, a small plastic bag of cocaine, several prescription pills and drinkers who were not yet 21.

Police spot adults giving alcohol to minors in liquor store parking lot

A Wyomissing police officer saw a man in a car give money to his passenger about 8:45 p.m. March 16 in the parking lot of a liquor store in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in the borough. The second man – who is, presumably, over 21, then bought some alcohol (the police didn't report if it was wine or liquor) and gave it to the driver. The officer confronted the pair, and the passenger admitted he bought the booze for the driver, who was 20 years old. The passenger faces charges of buying and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The next day, on St. Patrick's Day, an officer spotted a similar situation about 9:27 p.m. in the same parking lot. This time, police saw a person over 21 handing off alcohol from the liquor store to two women in a car, neither of whom was old enough to legally drink. They were cited and their supplier faces charges of providing alcohol to minors.

Wyomissing police catch minor with booze in his pants

A man stole a bottle of alcohol (the police report doesn't specify what kind) about 9:55 p.m. Dec. 30 from a state store in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing. He snuck the pilfered hooch out of the store by hiding it in his pants. Police caught him when they spotted the young thief pull the bottle out as he go into a vehicle in the parking lot. Officers learned the thief couldn't have bought the bottle if he wanted to; he was under 21. Store officials opted not to press charges, but police cited him for underage possession.

Drunken teen kicked out of nightclub in Wyomissing

A teenager attended "teen night" about 8:34 p.m. April 8 at a nightclub in the 200 block of Park Road North in Wyomissing but found himself making a hasty, and disruptive, exit. Security guards found he was drunk and kicked him out. The teen kept causing problems while outside, and his mother was called to pick him up. Borough police cited him for underage drinking.

Underage drinker falls asleep behind the wheel

A police officer found a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle about 9:13 p.m. April 29 in the Berkshire Mall parking lot, in the 1600 block of State Hill Road in Wyomissing, with the ignition on. The man was under 21 and three bottles of alcohol were confiscated from the vehicle. He was cited for underage drinking and released to a sober friend.

Three face charges after liquor purchase in Wyomissing

A Wyomissing police officer spotted two people giving a minor alcohol they bought about 7:47 p.m. April 9 from a liquor store in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in the borough. Police opted to cite the recipient of the booze for being underage, while the purchasers face charges of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Man charged with giving alcohol to a minor

A Wyomissing police officer was on patrol about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in the borough. He saw two men exchange cash and one of them bought a bottle of alcohol for the second man, who, it turns out was only 19. The 21-year-old purchaser was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Teenager hospitalized after drinking too much

A party that was held the night of Nov. 7 in the 1600 block of Museum Road resulted in a 14-year-old girl being taken to the hospital. Police learned that she passed out from drinking too much at the party where apparently other minors were drinking as well. By the time officers arrived only two of the roughly 15 partygoers remained at the house.

College students’ beer buy in Wyomissing goes awry

Three Penn State students tried to buy beer about 8:54 p.m. Oct. 22 from a beer distributor in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing. A borough police officer stopped them and found only one of the three was old enough to buy the two cases of beer. But the mature member of the group had a suspended license for a previous drunken-driving charge, so the beer was returned to the store and the students were sent on their way.

Underage would-be drinkers caught in Wyomissing

A Wyomissing police officer saw a young man buy a case of beer about 7:57 p.m. Oct. 3 from a store in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in the borough. The man then got into a car with three other people. When the officer stopped the beer buyer, the man gave the cop a fake ID. None of the people in the car could have bought the beer, either; they were all under 21.

About an hour later, someone called police to report a group of people exchanging money outside the liquor store also in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing. The officer who arrived spotted the person who bought the alcohol, but the buyer took off after seeing the police car. The officer found the people who had hoped to get the booze, and discovered they were under 21. He gave them a stern warning.

Officer breaks up drinking party in Wyomissing

A Wyomissing police officer on patrol about 10:16 p.m. Sept. 24 walked by a party being thrown in the 600 block of Christopher Drive in the borough.  Several people were playing a drinking game and the officer discovered no one in the home was over 21. The alcohol was seized and the occupants were given what the officer said was their “one warning.” Police later destroyed the booze.

Teenager gets caught trying to buy beer

An 18-year-old man tried to buy a case of beer at about 9:52 p.m. Sept. 17 from a store in the 1100 block of Woodland Road in Wyomissing. When the clerk asked for the man’s identification, he left the case on the counter and left. A borough police officer stopped him a short time later and cited him for trying to buy booze.

Checkpoint leads to several arrests in Wyomissing

Wyomissing police put up a drunken-driving checkpoint in the evening of Sept. 4 at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Park Road in the borough. In addition to the 25 traffic warnings and 12 citations issued, officers arrested three on suspicion of drunken driving, two on drug charges and two for allegedly drinking underage. The arrests included the following:

• At 1:19 a.m. Sept. 5 a vehicle was stopped for tinted windows but the officer spotted drugs in the vehicle as well. The driver was taken to the DUI center for a blood-alcohol test. Police found $1,400 in cash, three cell phones and a marijuana “shake” in the vehicle.

• A driver failed field sobriety tests at 1:44 a.m. Police found the driver’s blood-alcohol level to be 0.083 percent and took the driver to the DUI center for testing.

• A vehicle that was stopped at 1:48 a.m. for expired registration was occupied by two people who weren’t 21 and had been drinking. They were cited.

One man wasn’t even driving when police stopped him after the checkpoint shut down. At 2:22 a.m. officers noticed a young man loitering around vehicles parked in front of the police station. The suspect, who wasn’t yet 21, had been drinking, the officers noticed.

Naked man cited for underage drinking

A police officer spotted a naked man running through an apartment complex at 1:05 a.m. Aug. 29 in the 800 block of Park Road North in Wyomissing. The man told the officer that the whole thing was a prank, apparently devised while he was at a party in one of the apartments. Police cited the prankster for underage drinking and escorted back to his apartment.

Three face charges following late-night patrol in West Reading park

A borough police officer on patrol at 10:30 p.m. found three people in West Reading Park after the park had closed. He found that one of them, who was under 21 was on probation and had been drinking, as well as smoking pot. A second man had an open container of alcohol. The third suspect, a girl, was taken to her home by another cop. The second man was allowed to leave, but after he did an officer found a marijuana blunt under the bench where he’d been sitting. After he was arrested he said the pot under the bench belonged to him. All three now face charges.

Underage drinker faces drunken-driving charges

A West Reading police officer pulled over a car about 3 a.m. July 11 in the 200 block of Penn Avenue in the borough. The driver, who was not yet 21, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. The passenger’s sister came and picked up the car.
